We work hard to get it right the first time, but mistakes happen. When they do, we correct them promptly and openly. Trust depends on it.
How we handle errors
When we identify or are told about a possible error, our editorial team investigates straight away: we review the reporting, check the sources and cross-reference the facts. If an error is confirmed, we act quickly to fix it.
How corrections appear
For minor factual errors (a misspelled name, a wrong date, a small number), we update the article and add a clear editor's note at the foot of the piece explaining what changed and when.
For significant errors that materially change the meaning of a story, we add a prominent correction notice at the top of the article, stating the error, the correct information and the date. In rare cases where a story is fundamentally flawed, we will retract it with a full explanation.
Corrections log
We maintain a publicly accessible corrections log recording our significant corrections, with the article, the nature of the error and the date. It is a standing record of our commitment to accuracy.
