Welcome to the LocalBrief Asheville community. We want a space where neighbors can discuss local news and issues thoughtfully and respectfully. These guidelines apply wherever you engage with us, especially in comments.

Our goal: civil discourse

Asheville is a community of many viewpoints, and that is a strength. We ask that you share yours in a way that respects others. Disagree with ideas, not people.

What we expect

  • Be respectful. No personal attacks, harassment or abuse of authors, other readers or the people in our stories.
  • Stay on topic. Keep comments relevant to the article.
  • Be constructive. Add insight, questions or facts, not just heat.
  • No hate or discrimination. Nothing promoting hatred or violence based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or any protected characteristic.
  • Keep it clean. No profanity or obscenity.
  • No misinformation. Do not spread unverified claims, especially about recovery, safety or aid, where bad information can cause real harm.
  • Protect privacy. Do not post private information about yourself or others.
  • No spam or self-promotion. No ads, solicitations or commercial links.

Moderation

Our team moderates comments to keep the space civil. We reserve the right to edit or remove comments that break these guidelines and to suspend or ban repeat or serious offenders. We cannot review every comment before it appears, and responsibility for a comment lies with its author. Moderation decisions are made in good faith and are final.
